Your spine is made of many bones called vertebrae, and your spinal cord runs through a canal in the center of these bones. Nerve roots split from the cord and travel between the vertebrae into various areas of your body. When these nerve roots become pinched or damaged, the resulting symptoms are called radiculopathy.
Sports massage is a form of bodywork geared toward participants in athletics. The pain of whiplash is often hard to ignore. The symptoms may include:
Pain decreased the range of motion and tightness in the neck. The muscles may feel hard or knotted.
Pain when rocking your head from side to side or backward and forward.
Pain or stiffness when moving your head to look over each shoulder.
Headaches at the base of the skull that radiate towards the forehead.
There are billions of nerves in your body. Most of them, your peripheral nerves, are like branches of a tree that spread out all over and transmit messages back to the trunk—your brain and spinal cord. When everything goes smoothly, your brain gets the info it needs so that you can move your muscles, recognize pain, and keep your internal organs working properly.
But when peripheral nerves get damaged, it’s another story: Walking could become challenging, you might experience unrelenting pain, or you could end up with a serious injury because you had no idea how hot that stove was.
