A client suggested I read Michael Pollan’s Book, “How to Change Your Mindso I did and decided to do some research on Psilocybin or magic mushrooms. Plus, that led me to do some research on the Benefits of Massage for Psilocybin Therapy, and here’s what I found.

The Benefits of Integrating Massage Therapy into Your Psilocybin Journey

Benefits of Massage Therapy during the Psilocybin Journey

Incorporating massage therapy into your psilocybin experience can offer numerous benefits. Here are some of the advantages to consider:

  • Relaxation: Massage therapy promotes relaxation and decreases muscle tension, making it easier to absorb the effects of psilocybin.

  • Mind-Body Connection: Both massage therapy and psilocybin promote awareness of the mind-body connection, which can lead to a better understanding of one’s thought patterns and physical sensations.

  • Elevated Mood: Massage therapy stimulates the production of endorphins, which can heighten mood and ease depression or anxiety symptoms during a psilocybin experience.

  • Deeper Psychedelic State: By promoting relaxation and calmness, massage therapy can help individuals achieve a deeper state of consciousness during their psychedelic journey.

  • Reduced Nausea: Nausea is a common side effect of psilocybin, but massage therapy can alleviate this symptom by calming the body’s digestive system.

  • Increase Comfort: The gentle pressure applied by massage therapists during a session can increase overall comfort throughout the journey.

Integrating massage into your psilocybin journey adds an extra dimension to your experience. It offers unique benefits that cannot be achieved through meditation or other mindfulness techniques. When used together, these therapies work synergistically to create a more profound psychedelic experience.

Pro Tip: Choose a licensed massage therapist (PRO Massage) who has experience working with clients during psychedelic experiences as they ensure safety and optimize benefits.

Get a massage before your psilocybin journey or experience a microdose during massage and you’ll be so relaxed you’ll feel like a new and better person.

Integrating Message Therapy Provides Physical Relaxation During Psilocybin Journey

Message Therapy can be a beneficial addition to your psilocybin journey as it enhances physical relaxation. Massage can help release tension in the muscles and increase blood flow, which promotes a deeper sense of relaxation during the experience. Coupling massage therapy with the psychedelic journey can help align the mind, body, and spirit, and enhance the overall experience.

During the psilocybin journey, the body may undergo physical and emotional changes that can manifest as tension and anxiety. Massage therapy helps to ease these discomforts, and promote relaxation and calmness, which can lead to a better state of mind and a more positive experience. Additionally, massage therapy’s calming effects can aid in reducing the heart rate, and blood pressure and improve the overall immune system.

Unlike conventional treatments, massage therapy promotes a sense of natural healing within the body. This technique does not involve the use of drugs or chemical substances, making it an ideal option for those seeking a holistic care approach. Its integration with the psilocybin journey can revitalize your overall well-being, and mental state and encourage a positive transformation.

When Nicola of PRO Massage decided to combine massage therapy with his psilocybin journey, he experienced profound physical relaxation. During his experience, he felt tension in his body that was hindering him from surrendering fully. The massage helped him release the psychosomatic physical discomfort and tension in his brain and body, which created a deeper sense of calmness within himself. This combination allowed him to go deeper into his mind and body and gain a more profound spiritual experience.

Finally, a very legitimate reason to have a PRO Massage Therapist do healing bodywork, and psychosomatic healing while on shrooms.

Massage Therapy Increases circulation and oxygenation

With its ability to improve circulation and increase oxygenation, massage therapy offers numerous health benefits. This ancient healing technique aids in the removal of lactic acid enhances nutrient delivery and improves lymphatic flow. Additionally, it boosts endorphin production, relieves muscle tension, and enhances physical relaxation. By increasing blood flow to the tissues of the body, massage therapy can help relieve stress and pain while promoting overall well-being.

Massage therapy also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps reduce stress levels by activating what is known as the “rest and digest” response. When we experience stress or trauma, our body enters a state of heightened sympathetic nervous system activity, which triggers a cascade of physiological responses that contribute to fatigue and chronic pain. By stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system through therapeutic touch techniques like Swedish massage or deep tissue massage, practitioners can help clients reduce cortisol and achieve a sense of deep relaxation, which in turn promotes healing.

If you are looking for a natural way to manage your chronic pain or anxiety symptoms, consider seeking out professional massage therapy services from a licensed practitioner like Nicola of PRO Massage.  While it may seem like an indulgence at first glance, regular massage sessions can provide lasting relief from musculoskeletal pain and promote profound physical relaxation that is impossible to achieve through other means. Don’t miss out on all of the benefits that this powerful ancient art has to offer!

Calms the Muscular and Nervous Systems

The soothing properties of this substance help manage the intense response of both the muscular and nervous systems. This results in overall physical relaxation, which alleviates stress and anxiety symptoms. It can also aid with blood flow and pain management by calming the muscles.

Moreover, this substance enhances the effects of other relaxation techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises, by facilitating a deeper state of relaxation throughout the body.

It’s important to note that physical relaxation isn’t just about feeling good, but it’s crucial for maintaining optimal health and reducing potential injuries. With its ability to soothe the nervous system and relieve muscular tension, this substance offers an all-encompassing solution for those who seek to improve their physical well-being.

Studies have shown that regular consumption of this substance can significantly reduce muscle stiffness and soreness. The Journal of Athletic Training found that athletes taking this substance had less pain intensity compared to those who didn’t consume it.

Promotes Emotional and Mental Balance

Maintaining a clear thinking mental and emotional state is essential for a fulfilling psilocybin experience. Utilizing massage therapy can aid in emotional regulation by promoting the release of oxytocin and serotonin, reducing stress hormones such as cortisol, and creating an environment for deeper introspection.

During the psilocybin journey, one may encounter internal conflicts or psychological distress. Massage therapy can help the individual navigate these experiences by reducing feelings of anxiety and increasing self-awareness. Through touch and pressure, the therapist can facilitate emotional release, enhancing the healing potential of the psilocybin experience.

It’s important to note that massage therapy should not be seen as a cure-all, but rather as a complementary tool. It’s essential to find a qualified therapist like Nicola of PRO Massage who can help guide the individual through their experience. By integrating massage therapy into your psilocybin journey, one can create a more profound and rewarding experience. Don’t miss out on the benefits that massage therapy can offer – take advantage of this unique opportunity to deepen your journey.

Reduces Anxiety and Stress

Studies suggest that the incorporation of certain activities and practices can help mitigate feelings of anxiety and stress. One effective way to achieve this is by promoting emotional and mental balance. Such actions aid in regulating thoughts and emotions while fostering an overall sense of calmness.

By focusing on mindfulness, meditation, or participating in physical activity, individuals may be able to reduce their levels of anxiety and stress. These actions promote a more centered mindset, allowing individuals to manage situations with higher clarity and less agitation. Additionally, incorporating healthy habits such as sufficient sleep schedules and balanced diets may strengthen the body’s ability to handle stressful situations.

It is important to note that while these practices can help regulate feelings of anxiety and stress, they do not replace professional care. Individuals dealing with significant levels of anxiety or chronic stress should seek medical attention.

Research conducted by Harvard Health Publishing suggests that practicing mindfulness on a regular basis can notably reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and chronic pain.

Life may be unpredictable, but with emotional and mental balance, you’ll be able to handle it like a pro and still find reasons to smile.

Improves Mood and Positive Outlook

Research shows that embracing a positive attitude can aid in emotional and mental balance. This balance promotes an improved mood and an optimistic outlook on life. By focusing on the positives, individuals can experience a reduction in stress levels and an improvement in overall well-being.

Maintaining a grateful mindset is key to promoting emotional and mental balance. Looking for things to be thankful for, even during challenging times, can help shift one’s perspective towards positivity. Additionally, participating in activities that bring joy and satisfaction, such as exercise or meditation, can further enhance mood and outlook.

Moreover, incorporating healthy habits into daily life routines has been shown to promote emotional stability. Eating nourishing foods and getting enough sleep can help maintain a stable mood throughout the day. By taking care of oneself physically, individuals are better equipped to handle stressors that may arise.

PRO Tip: Incorporate daily practices into your routine that promote positivity and gratitude. This could include journaling, practicing mindfulness, or connecting with loved ones. Small changes over time can have a significant impact on one’s emotional well-being.

Deepens and Connects the Body-Mind Integration

One of the advantages of incorporating massage therapy into your psilocybin journey involves enhancing the integration between your mind and body (The Psycho-somatic connection). The use of psilocybin can foster a greater appreciation for the body and its connection to the mind. Massage therapy enhances this process by encouraging individuals to become more aware of their physical sensations, as well as their thoughts and emotions.

During a massage, the touch of the therapist can help individuals become more in tune with their body’s signals and physical sensations. This can lead to a greater understanding of how to listen to and respond to the body’s needs. In turn, this can deepen the connection between the mind and body and promote a more integrated experience during psilocybin use.

Moreover, massage can release tension and promote relaxation, which can further enhance the psilocybin experience. When the body is relaxed, the mind is more likely to follow, allowing for a greater sense of ease and clarity during the journey.

To maximize the benefits of massage during a macro psilocybin journey, it is recommended to get a massage a day or two before the experience. This can help to release pent-up tension and prepare the body and mind for the journey ahead. Additionally, incorporating intentional breathing exercises or meditation during the massage can further deepen the connection between mind and body.

Overall, integrating massage therapy into your psilocybin journey can be a powerful way to enhance the mind-body connection and promote a more integrated and meaningful experience.

Enhances Body Awareness

By exploring the connection between mind and body, the practice deepens bodily awareness and strengthens the integration of these two essential components. This results in a heightened sensitivity towards physical sensations and a better understanding of how they relate to emotional states. Through specific exercises and techniques, individuals can become more tuned in to their physical body and its needs, leading to improved self-awareness and overall well-being.

Practicing this technique helps individuals become more attuned with their bodies, noticing subtle changes in tension, discomfort, or relaxation. Engaging fully with each moment from a whole-body perspective enhances one’s sense of control, self-confidence, mood stabilization, and overall self-image. Mindful attention given to various body parts cultivates an awareness that can empower people to take better care of themselves physically and mentally.

One unique way that practicing this technique improves overall health is by helping individuals notice previously overlooked patterns of pain or discomfort that may arise during daily activities. By becoming more aware of issues like posture imbalances or overuse injuries as they occur, people can proactively make necessary corrections to avoid pain or further physical harm.

Studies show that incorporating this practice regularly helps alleviate stress-related symptoms such as anxiety and depression while boosting immune function. According to Harvard Medical School professor Herbert Benson in “The Relaxation Response,” it has been proven beneficial for reducing stress levels by lowering blood pressure, promoting healthy sleep habits, and increasing resilience in difficult situations.

Intensifies Sensory Experience

With its ability to heighten sensory perception, this practice enhances the connection between the body and mind. By intensifying our awareness of sensory cues and opening up channels of perception, we become more attuned to our physical experiences. This can include sensations such as touch, sound, taste, smell, and sight. As a result, we deepen our understanding of ourselves and sharpen our ability to respond appropriately to our surroundings.

Furthermore, this mind-body integration is not only beneficial for personal well-being but also has practical applications in daily life. By refining sensory awareness and honing intuition, we can improve decision-making skills and overall cognitive function. Additionally, access to heightened sensory experiences can be an effective tool for those with disabilities or other sensory impairments.

It’s important to note that these benefits are not isolated to one area of the body or type of sensation. Rather this practice can deepen and connect all aspects of the physical experience- from tingling sensations in the feet during yoga poses to subtle changes in facial muscle tension during meditation practices.

Enhances the Spiritual Experience

Integrating Massage Therapy into Your Psilocybin Journey Increases Spiritual Depth.

Massage therapy is a powerful tool to enhance the transformative experience of a psilocybin journey. Integrating massage therapy into a psilocybin journey helps to deepen the spiritual experience by reducing physical and mental stress. Psilocybin mushrooms are mushrooms that contain the hallucinogenic substances psilocybinpsilocinbaeocystin, and norbaeocystin. The mushrooms are collected and grown as an entheogen and recreational drug, despite being illegal in many countries. Many psilocybin mushrooms are in the genus Psilocybe, but species across several other genera contain the drugs. But what’s even more mindblowing is that there are over 200 different species of mushrooms that grow wild around the globe—and which all contain psilocybin. Not to mention, some species have dozens of different strains with their own signature shape, flavor, and trip (we’re looking at the Psilocybe cubensis!)

Psilocybe cubensis

I’ve eaten psilocybin mushrooms but had no idea what species it was, chances are it was a strain of Psilocybe cubensis. That’s because “cubes” are the easiest magic mushroom to cultivate indoors, and since the ’70s, there have been a few pivotal books teaching hobby growers how to do so, including Terence and Dennis McKenna’s, Psilocybin: The Magic Mushroom Grower’s Guide. In fact, due to decades of selective home breeding, there are now 60 different strains of P. cubensis, like Golden Teachers, B+, Penis Envy Mushrooms, and Pink Buffalo. In clinical trials looking at the potential of psilocybin to treat mental health conditions, subjects actually receive isolated, synthetic psilocybin, rather than the whole mushroom, so we don’t actually have any rigorous data on the differences between all the magic mushrooms for healing purposes. While different strains of cubensis can also be found in the wild all over the world, the indoor-grown types are typically more potent. That’s one of the reasons that mushrooms you buy on the underground market are often stronger than the ones you pick in nature since they’ve been bred for strength and are grown in specific substrates (the material in which you grow mushrooms) that increase potency. However, you can find cubensis growing throughout the southern US, into Mexico, Central America, and South America. They also grow in Cuba, India, Southeast Asia, and Australia. In nature, they prefer to live on dung and can also be found on well-manured land in the spring, summer, and fall. In mycologist Paul Stamets’ mushroom identification guide, Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World, he calls P. cubensis “the most majestic of the Psilocybes” because of their easy-to-recognize size and golden color. Like all Psilocybes, P. cubensis’ color depends on its level of hydration; they also turn a bluish color when handled due to psilocin oxidizing (basically being exposed to oxygen). Cubensis is distinct from other Psilocybe species because of its relatively large size and the way the mushroom’s cap widens with maturity. Overall, this is the most famous and widely consumed magic mushroom in existence, but it’s not the only one.

Popular Strains of Psilocybe cubensis

Mushroom identification and taxonomy have never been easy tasks; there are over 200 different species of Psilocybe and the distinctions become more complicated when you take strains and cultivars into account. As mentioned above, there are dozens of different strains of Psilocybe cubensis. Yet, while these strains belong to the same species, they can feature different physical characteristics, growing conditions, and potency. Many of them were created by underground breeders within the past five decades. Other strains have adapted to growing in a particular region over time and may display specific traits that helped them survive in their distinct habitats.

Psychedelics for the “betterment of well people” isn’t a new notion, but recent legislation is giving the idea new life. While psilocybin mushrooms are well known for their powerful psychedelic effects, there is far more to these magical mushrooms than many may think. In fact, more and more scientific studies are shedding light on the various incredible life-altering mental and physical health benefits of magic mushrooms. From managing mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, aiding in the maintenance of several forms of addiction, supporting an array of health issues, enhancing creativity, eliciting deep spiritual journeys, and increasing productivity to improving overall mood and well-being, to mention just a few, researchers are finally acknowledging and highlighting the potentially far-reaching benefits of psilocybin mushrooms – and it is about time! The array of negative stigmas surrounding magic mushrooms has been well and truly shattered. This is in large part due to psilocybin mushrooms emerging as a groundbreaking therapy tool for the treatment and management of various chronic ailments, from alleviating symptoms of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) to the management of addiction and addictive behaviors, and several mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. In fact, psilocybin therapy was recently given the “breakthrough therapy” designation (a review fast track) by the FDA for the treatment of depression. To step it up another notch, as mental health is such a vital component of any individual’s overall health and well-being, new research and scientific studies are continuously being conducted on psilocybin mushrooms and their ability to manage and treat various mental health conditions effectively. This means that in addition to the already promising studies and results, there may be even more incredible breakthroughs on the horizon and thus a very bright future ahead with regards to mental health and magic mushrooms.

Can psilocybin be used for depression?
In a groundbreaking study, a single dose of psilocybin, combined with psychological support, generated a rapid response and significant reduction in depressive symptoms that lasted up to 12 weeks.

A compound found in so-called magic mushrooms, psilocybin produces visual and auditory hallucinations and profound changes in consciousness over a few hours after ingestion. In 2016, Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers first reported that treatment with psilocybin under psychologically supported conditions significantly relieved existential anxiety and depression in people with a life-threatening cancer diagnosis.

How long does psilocybin work for depression?
All patients showed some reductions in their depression scores at 1-week post-treatment and maximal effects were seen at 5 weeks, with results remaining positive at 3 and 6 months. Notably, reductions in depressive symptoms at 5 weeks were predicted by the quality of the acute psychedelic experience.
How long do the benefits of psilocybin last?
The half-life of psilocybin is about 2 to 6 hours, and effects wear off after about 5 to 6 hours, according to Andrew Penn, NP. Most people take it orally, though there have been some neuroimaging studies with IV psilocybin, this isn’t how it’s usually administered.
How do you take psilocybin therapy?
So how does a psychedelic-assisted therapy session work? In a safe and comforting environment, an individual will take a low dose of psilocybin under the supervision of a professional. Afterward, the therapist will work with the individual to help them integrate their psychedelic session.
What happens during a psilocybin therapy session?
They receive a dose of psilocybin in a capsule. During the experience, patients listen to a specially designed music playlist and wear an eye mask, to help them focus internally. The psilocybin experience typically lasts 6-8 hours. A therapist and an assisting therapist are present throughout the session.
What should not be eaten with mushrooms?
Honey and ghee are contradictory food items. Using mushrooms with shrimp, buttermilk, and mustard oil is a no-no. Pineapples with urad dal, milk, yogurt, milk, honey, and ghee are contradictory food items.
Ghee is clarified butter, a.k.a. butter that has been simmered and strained to remove all water. In France, clarified butter has uncooked milk solids, yielding a product with a very clean, sweet flavor. In comparison, ghee is cooked over low heat until the milk solids have a chance to start to brown lightly, creating a slightly nutty, caramelized vibe. It is shelf-stable, with a high smoke point and deeply nutty flavor. Ghee has played a key role in Ayurveda for centuries, where it’s prized for its anti-inflammatory, digestive, and therapeutic properties. It even appears in the Vedic myth of creation, when the deity Prajapati created ghee from nothingness and poured it into the fire to form his offspring.
Can psychiatrists prescribe psychedelics?
If psychedelic drugs become approved as treatment modalities, psychiatrists should be responsible for their prescription and the management of patients receiving them First, research on the psychotherapeutic potential of psychedelic compounds has focused on psychiatric conditions, including terminal illness–related … https://ps.psychiatryonline.org/doi/10.1176/appi.ps.202000213
What’s considered a psychedelic?
Psychedelics (also known as hallucinogens) are a class of psychoactive substances that produce changes in perception, mood, and cognitive processes. Psychedelics affect all the senses, altering a person’s thinking, sense of time, and emotions.
What drugs can make you hallucinate?
People can experience hallucinations when they’re high on illegal drugs such as amphetamines, cocaine, LSD, or ecstasy. They can also occur during withdrawal from alcohol or drugs if you suddenly stop taking them. Drug-induced hallucinations are usually visual, but they may affect other senses.
Which one of the following is a hallucinogenic drug?
Classic types of hallucinogens include ayahuasca, DMT, LSD, MDMA, mescaline, psilocybin, and tetrahydrocannabinol.
How do psychedelics affect the brain?
Hallucinogens distort the perception of reality, causing people to see and believe things that aren’t real. Hallucinogens can also have long-term effects on the brain that can cause memory problems, paranoia, and impaired judgment.
Hallucinogens distort reality. Despite this, these drugs are some of the most popular recreational substances today. Even though they’re often used at festivals, parties, and concerts, the way hallucinogens affect the brain isn’t fun and exciting. Hallucinogens distort the perception of reality, causing people to see and believe things that aren’t real. Hallucinogens can also have long-term effects on the brain that can cause memory problems, paranoia, and impaired judgment.

What Are Hallucinogens?

Hallucinogens are a group of drugs that alter a person’s awareness of their surroundings as well as their thoughts and feelings. When people use hallucinogens, they tend to see images, hear sounds, and feel sensations that appear to be real but are not. Hallucinogens can be found in some plants and mushrooms, but they can also be man-made. Generally, hallucinogens fall into one of two categories: classic hallucinogens and dissociative drugs. Even though both types of drugs can cause hallucinations, dissociative drugs can make people feel disconnected from their bodies and the environment. Common classic hallucinogens include:

  • LSD (D-lysergic acid diethylamide). This clear or white odorless material is made from ergot, a fungus that grows on rye and other grains. LSD is one of the most powerful mind-altering chemicals. The drug causes hallucinations, and altered moods, and changes the ways individuals perceive reality. Visual distortions are the most common type of sensory distortions caused by LSD. People who take the drug report seeing sounds, hearing colors, and feeling smells.
  • Psilocybin (4-phosphoryloxy-N, N-dimethyltryptamine). This drug, which comes from mushrooms found in tropical and subtropical regions of South America, Mexico, and the United States, produces effects similar to LSD. People consume psilocybin, also known as “shrooms,” in fresh, dried, edible, or tea forms.
  • Peyote (mescaline). Peyote is a small cactus that has disc-shaped “buttons” that contain mescaline. People who use mescaline dry the buttons out and chew them or soak them in liquid to create an intoxicating drink. Mescaline can also be chemically produced in a lab. When consumed, mescaline produces an altered state of consciousness that causes visual hallucinations.
  • DMT (N, N-dimethyltryptamine). This chemical is naturally found in some Amazonian plants, but it can also be made in a lab. The effects include vivid hallucinations, depersonalization, and an altered sense of time. Ayahuasca also called “hoasca,” “aya,” and “yage” is made from plants containing DMT and is usually consumed like tea.
  • 251-NBOMe. This synthetic hallucinogen has similar effects to LSD and MDMA, but it is much more potent. People who consume 251-NBOMe also called “N-Bomb,” experience unusual body sensations, distorted color, sounds, objects, and time perception.
  • THC (Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol). THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, affects brain regions that influence coordination, memory, appetite, and pleasure. Even though marijuana can be used medically, THC can also cause paranoia, anxiety, hallucinations, and a distorted perception of time when used regularly.

Common dissociative hallucinogens include:

  • Ketamine. Even though this drug is commonly used as a surgery anesthetic for humans and animals, individuals can illegally consume ketamine in the form of a powder, pill, or injectable liquid. When consumed, ketamine can cause visual disturbances, confusion, disorientation, and dissociative effects. Because of this, ketamine is sometimes added to drinks as a date rape drug.
  • PCP (Phencyclidine). Like ketamine, PCP was developed as a general anesthetic for surgery, but because of the side effects, the substance is no longer used for the purpose. Today, PCP is an illegal street drug that’s snorted, smoked, swallowed, or injected into the veins. When consumed, PCP produces “out-of-body” sensations.
  • Dextromethorphan (DXM). This cough suppressant and mucus-clearing ingredient in some over-the-counter medicines can cause a range of psychological and physical effects. Large doses of DXM can produce hallucinations, dissociation, and loss of motor coordination.

All these drugs, whether hallucinogens or dissociative substances, affect the brain.

How Do Hallucinogens Affect The Brain?

Even though scientists and researchers don’t fully understand how hallucinogens affect the brain, they do know that:

Hallucinogens Can Interfere With Activity In The Prefrontal Cortex

The prefrontal cortex helps us process complicated thoughts, set and achieve goals, focus our attention, deal with uncertainty, manage emotional reactions, process information, predict consequences, and plan for the future. When hallucinogens interfere with this part of the brain, individuals struggle to focus, process information, and pay attention to certain things. Instead of being able to accurately focus their attention on a blank wall, for example, individuals taking hallucinogens may interpret the blank wall as moving and swirling, or perhaps, covered in insects. Cognition levels decline, which causes individuals to remain trapped in a hallucinatory state of mind until the effects of the drug wear off.

Hallucinogens Can Interfere With Neural Circuits In The Brain That Use Serotonin

Neural circuits are groups of neurons that work together to carry out specific functions in the brain. When hallucinogens interfere with neural circuits that use serotonin, they start to affect normal functions that rely on that chemical messenger. When this happens, an individual’s mood, appetite, and need for sleep may change. Their body temperature can fluctuate drastically and they may have trouble controlling their muscle movements. In addition, their sensory perception may decline. When this happens, individuals may find themselves experiencing:

  • Delusions
  • Nightmares
  • Hallucinations
  • Visual disturbances
  • Illusions that aren’t real

Hallucinogens Can Disturb Glutamate Levels

Dissociative hallucinogens tend to interfere with glutamate, a brain chemical that helps regulate emotions, learning, memory, responses to the environment, and pain perception. When hallucinogens interfere with glutamate levels, individuals have abnormal responses to environmental stimuli. These abnormal responses are typically responsible for the dissociative effects that individuals experience. Some individuals, for example, feel like they are floating after taking dissociative hallucinogens, while others feel like they are being pulled down beneath the ground. Hallucinogens can also have long-term effects on the brain.

Long-Term Effects of Hallucinogens

Even though these effects are rare, heavy and persistent use of hallucinogens can cause:

  • Persistent Psychosis, a mental disorder that causes visual disturbances, disorganized thinking, paranoia, and sudden mood changes.
  • Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder (HPPD), a recurrence of certain drug experiences characterized by hallucinations, visual disturbances, and flashbacks. These flashbacks happen without warning and can occur within a few days or more than a year after drug use.

Even though neither ailment is common, they can occur unexpectedly and simultaneously.

What are the side effects of eating poisoned mushrooms?
Symptoms of mushroom poisoning
  • nausea.
  • stomach cramps.
  • vomiting.
  • diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
  • headache.
  • dizziness.

  • heart palpitations.

Now, the findings from the new study, published Nov. 4 in JAMA Psychiatry, suggest that psilocybin may be more effective in a much wider population of patients who suffer from major depression than previously appreciated. “The magnitude of the effect we saw was about four times larger than what clinical trials have shown for traditional antidepressants on the market,” says Alan Davis, Ph.D., adjunct assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. “Because most other depression treatments take weeks or months to work and may have undesirable effects, this could be a game-changer if these findings hold up in future ‘gold-standard’ placebo-controlled clinical trials.” The published findings cover only a four-week follow-up in 24 participants, all of whom underwent two five-hour psilocybin sessions under the direction of the researchers. “Because there are several types of major depressive disorders that may result in variation in how people respond to treatment, I was surprised that most of our study participants found the psilocybin treatment to be effective,” says Roland Griffiths, Ph.D., the Oliver Lee McCabe III Professor in the Neuropsychopharmacology of Consciousness at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research. He says the major depression treated in the new study may have been different than the “reactive” form of depression in patients they studied in the 2016 cancer trial. Griffiths says his team was encouraged by public health officials to explore psilocybin’s effects in the broader population of those with major depressive disorder because of the much larger potential public health impact.

In addition to the remarkable range of physical and mental health benefits of psilocybin mushrooms, magic mushrooms have the potential to take you on a powerful, profound, and enriching journey of self-discovery, self-development, self-improvement, and self-enhancement that is far beyond your wildest dreams and anything you can imagine. You, therefore, don’t need to be dealing with any mental or physical ailments to reap the remarkable benefits of psychedelics and magic mushrooms. In fact, in the 1990s, researcher Bob Jesse articulated the notion that psychedelics could be used for the “betterment of well people” – AKA the self-improvement, self-development, and self-enhancement of people who may not be suffering from any mental and/or physical condition, but seek something more profound, enriching, and life-altering out of their psychedelic experience. This notion was further supported in a study conducted by researchers Katherine MacLean, Matthew Johnson, and Roland Griffiths who looked at the effects of psilocybin on healthy, “hallucinogen-naive” participants – i.e. people who had never tried psychedelics before. The study revealed significant increases in the “openness” personality trait in the group of participants who had “complete mystical experiences” during their high-dose psilocybin sessions. In reference to the study, the term ‘openness’ refers to being “permeable to new ideas and experiences” and being “motivated to enlarge one’s experience into novel territory”. The trait is also associated with a greater degree of creativity and fluid, flexible thinking. In addition, the researchers defined the term “complete mystical experience” as an experience characterized by sufficiently intense feelings of “unity,” “transcendence of time and space,” “ineffability and paradoxicality,” “sacredness,” “noetic quality,” and “positive mood,” as measured by participants’ responses to the administered “States of Consciousness Questionnaire.” The above research went on to indicate that the participants’ increase in openness “remained significantly higher than the baseline” more than one year after the high-dose psilocybin sessions were administered. According to researchers Katherine MacLean, Matthew Johnson, and Roland Griffiths, this was the first time that research has effectively demonstrated “real changes in personality in healthy adults after an experimentally manipulated discrete event.” These findings are not only remarkable and profound but may well represent a progressive and important development in western society’s relationship with psychedelics, as well as self-improvement and self-enhancement as a whole. Magic mushrooms & it’s linked to self-improvement & enhancement When it comes down to it, the simple truth is, that psychedelics and magic mushrooms can be everything and anything to everyone and anyone. They can be intoxicating, they can give you mind-blowing visuals, they can aid in the treatment and management of several mental and physical health conditions, or they can take you on a spiritual journey that’s enriching, remarkably profound, and completely transformational – essentially changing your life, and in turn, your perspective and outlook on life forever – It all depends on you! However, one thing’s for sure, if you want a psychedelic experience and journey that goes beyond mere recreation, you need to approach magic mushrooms with a clear focus, intent, and the right preparation. Beyond the intoxication, geometric shapes, and synesthesia exist endless potential and a treasure trove of possibilities just waiting to be discovered. All of which you can miss out on if you don’t take them more seriously. Throughout history, billions of people have tried, tested, and engaged in various activities and methods to change and improve themselves for the better. From rigorous fitness programs and diet, regimens to enhance their physical appearance to meditative or contemplative practices to become more mindful, centered, compassionate, and grounded. However, the primary issue or ‘problem’ with most of these traditional means of self-improvement so many of us rely on, is the fact that they require a long-term commitment and must be practiced consistently, if not daily, for an extended period of time in order to have any effect or produce some sort of beneficial results – or, in the case of psychoactive substances, one must be acutely under the influence in order to experience its benefits. In other words, most of these tools do not create change by initiating a single “discrete event,” but instead require ongoing maintenance/repetition over a period of time – with each use/effort/engagement creating transient, rather than lasting changes. However, the research conducted by Katherine MacLean, Matthew Johnson, and Roland Griffiths suggests that psilocybin, when administered within an appropriately structured, supportive, and guided environment and context, could be used to initiate a single ‘discrete event’ – AKA the ‘Complete Mystical Experience’ – which produces an enduring and long-lasting change in personality – An increase in ‘openness’. This, in and of itself, signifies an incredible and potentially highly impactful means of ‘human enhancement,’ or simply ‘enhancement’ as a whole. Self-enhancement or enhancement, in general, is in turn linked to self-improvement and development and geared towards helping healthy individuals bettering themselves and ultimately reach their full potential. How can magic mushrooms transform you? Magic mushrooms are essentially catalysts that can initiate changes in our personality. As mentioned above, research has shown that the profound effects of psilocybin mushrooms can potentially last for more than 6 months after a psychedelic trip on a substantial dose. One of the many ways in which magic mushrooms can transform you is their ability to take and guide you through an emotional cathartic release, ultimately helping you get more in touch with your subconscious. In the process, these magical psychedelics dissolve your ego, enabling you to break free from your cycle of rigid thoughts, beliefs, and habits that ultimately hold you back in life. This process is referred to as ego death. A person’s ego can be thought of as the culmination of three different components of the human psyche according to the perspective of modern Psychologists. These three components include self-image, self-esteem, and self-identity. The culmination of these three components of the human psyche embodies our sense of self, which ultimately helps us quantify and classify our own reality. This in turn affects our beliefs and thoughts, both in memory and in the moment. The ego can therefore be thought of as the ‘gatekeeper’ of one’s consciousness, only admitting into awareness the thoughts and beliefs that align with and conform to our own self-image, essentially disregarding everything else. When it comes to ego death, it can be defined in several ways, based on varying perspectives. From a philosophical point of view, ego death can be described as a temporary transformation of the psyche. It is effectively the process of shifting from a self-centered perspective, trapped in the confines of your own self-limiting beliefs, to being completely unbiased and in a content state of open-mindedness. This transformational process has the potential to foster a renewed and novel perspective, completely unclouded by the lens of duality that the ego casts over our consciousness and sense of self. From a scientific standpoint, as opposed to the philosophical point of view, ego death is hypothesized to be the result of dampened activity in the Default Mode Network. This temporary silencing and dampened activity of the DMN essentially acts as a “reset” or “rewiring” of the network, as well as the consequent rewiring of your thought patterns, which are otherwise hindered by your ego. This sentiment is echoed by Psychologist Dr. Matthew Brown, which states, “If you do the same thing repeatedly, it is like you are walking down the same path all the time”. Brown goes on to say that by dampening the activity in the Default Mode Network, effectively ‘resetting’ and ‘rewiring’ the network, ultimately resulting in ego death, you are essentially ‘mowing the lawn’ and clearing the way so that you can stroll down the new path you’ve created a bit more easily. Besides a profound change in perspective, ego death can bring about some truly remarkable and potentially life-altering experiences and benefits, including an increase in traits like openness and empathy. In addition, ego death gives you the unique opportunity to experience a true, authentic, and completely unbiased reality. A reality that is entirely free of any self-limiting beliefs or thought patterns that, in many cases, have been so deeply ingrained in us. Ego death can therefore be seen as an eye-opening reflection, illustration, or glimpse into the various ways in which our egos have ‘lied’ to us in order to preserve our own self-image, self-identity, and self-esteem. The benefits don’t end there – incredible experiences of ‘spiritual awakening’ as well as drastic shifts in personality can be brought about by the brief amalgamation of self and others as it serves to grant us the realization that we are all connected. In fact, this profound feeling of connectedness and notion of “oneness” is one of the top criteria used by psychedelic scientists to qualify the “mystical experience,” which directly correlates to higher rates of healing experienced by individuals using psychedelics for conditions like depression, anxiety, and addiction. Tripping on magic mushrooms with intent Every journey begins with the first step of articulating your intention, and then becoming the intention! Tripping with intent is the ultimate differentiating factor. The only way you will truly gain any sense of self-improvement, self-enhancement, and self-development – AKA something MORE and more profound – out of your magic mushroom experience is to trip with intent. Casual trippers (those consuming magic mushrooms with no clear or set intent) miss out on all the remarkable and potentially life-altering effects and benefits that magic mushrooms and psychedelics have to offer, including the profound transformative impact it can have on their lives. This results in recreational users not enjoying and relishing in the full potential of their trip or reaping the maximum benefits of their psychedelic mushroom experience and journey. To back this up, Myron Stolaroff, a researcher and author best known for his work in psychedelic psychotherapy, stated the following about psychedelics, “Their true purpose is to enhance growth and interior development. Used only for pleasure, or abused, the Inner Self is thwarted, which leads to unpleasant experiences and depression.” Myron Stolaroff goes on to say that when preparing/embarking on a psychedelic magic mushroom journey, you should approach it in the same manner as you would any other journey to reap the greatest rewards. First off, have intent and purpose. Establish a plan of action, Have an itinerary/plan of where you want to go, areas you want to discover and delve deeper into, and questions you want to explore during your trip. It should be thought of as a therapeutic session that should not be taken lightly – An honest appraisal of yourself. If you are tripping in a group setting, set time aside where you can be by yourself in order to do some quiet introspection and set an intent and purpose for your psychedelic journey. A great way to set yourself up for an introspective and intentional magic mushroom experience is to ask yourself more in-depth and profound questions regarding your life, such as: •    What prevents me / holds me back from reaching my full potential? •    Does my behavior and daily actions complement my personal goals and beliefs? •    Why do I let my self-limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging actions have such a monumental impact on my life and what I want to achieve? •    What changes do I need to make / what actions do I need to take to make my life better? These are merely a few examples of questions you can ask yourself, all of which can have a big impact on your overall journey. It is extremely important to take the necessary time to think about each question, feel it, and reflect deeply upon it. If you focus your mind on these specific questions and intentions during your trip, you will undoubtedly come back from your psychedelic experience and journey fully enriched and transformed, having learned extraordinary things about yourself and your life. How to use your magic mushroom trip for self-improvement The pioneer of the use of psychedelic therapy, Leo Zeff, put it best by saying the quality of a trip is not determined by your experience that day, but by your subsequent growth in the following months. Magic mushroom users tend to focus solely on individual psychedelic trips; isolating each magic mushroom experience; never connecting one trip to the other or viewing their psychedelic journeys as part of an interconnecting ‘bigger picture. They choose to view them as separate and exclusive, rather than in their entirety. This is the biggest issue and roadblock to using your magic mushroom trip for self-improvement, and enhancement. By being intentional, focused, and paying attention to every insight you encounter during your magic mushroom experience/trip, and committing to applying these new-found lessons, perceptions, and perspectives into your daily life, your psychedelic experiences will exceed all your expectations and, instead of simply being an intoxicating high with mind-blowing visuals, they will become profound and impactful events that not only catalyzes change in various aspects of your life, but helps you reach your highest level of self-awareness, self-improvement, self-development, and self-enhancement. One of the best ways to measure the impact and quality of your trip is to consider how much you’ve gained and grown from it. As you embark on a number of magic mushroom psychedelic trips, each new lesson you learn, the perspective you acquire, and the insight you gain from the experience, can provide you with important and essential feedback, awareness, and understanding about yourself, your life, and any issues and struggles you may be facing. Thereby helping you face and come to terms with them, dissect them, and ultimately deal with them one at a time. Essentially eliminating any possible issues, areas of concern, and self-limiting beliefs that can not only contribute to a potentially bad trip, but prevent you from experiencing the complete, liberating psychedelic journey in its entirety, as well as hold you back from reaching your full potential and achieving self-improvement, development, and enhancement. Once you’ve experienced the benefits of tripping with intent, you will come to realize how much more fulfilling it is when you trip with the intention of self-improvement. Plus, your life may change for the better in so many unbelievable ways.

Common Psilocybin Mushrooms

#1

Golden Teacher Mushrooms

Psilocybin or magic mushrooms are some of the most popular naturally occurring psychedelics that have served mankind for centuries. Psilocybin and psilocin are highly beneficial compounds found in at least 15 species of magic mushrooms – belonging to three main genera – Psilocybe, Conocybe, and Penaeolus. Out of these three, the most favored by growers is Psilocybe, which has different varieties, such as Psilocybe Cubensis, Psilocybe semilanceata, and Psilocybe Baeocystis. From Psilocybe Cubensis comes the Golden Teacher strain, which has become a favorite among psychonauts for its many health benefits. P. cubensis is well known because it is widely distributed on many continents. It grows naturally through Southeast Asia, Central America, and Australia. It is also very adaptive and can be easily cultivated even by an amateur grower in a home setting. So the next time you see magic mushrooms for sale online or in a physical shop, there is a high chance they are advertising a psilocybe cubensis strain. The Golden Teacher mushroom strain is among the most popular psychedelic fungi, highly sought by shroomers and growers alike. There are a lot of many things about the Golden Teacher shrooms which contribute to their popularity. This strain of Psilocybe cubensis has an air of mystery and this is what makes these fungi so special. Golden Teachers are fairly new and they first appeared during the 1980s. The exact origins are unknown but it is highly recognizable because of its golden caps with specks of yellow. Compared to most strains of Psilocybe cubensis, Golden Teachers have larger stems and caps; and a generally more elegant appearance. The recommended dose for dried Golden Teacher mushrooms is between 1 gram and 2.5 grams. For most experienced shroomers, this dose may be quite small but this allows a margin of error for novice shroomers who never ingested Golden Teachers before.

What is Golden Teacher?

Golden Teacher is a magic mushroom strain cultivated from Psilocybe Cubensis. Also known as GT shrooms, Golden Teacher was discovered in the 1980s and has since remained a top choice for many. Its exact origin is unknown, but it is remarkably recognizable for its elegant appearance – a gold cap with specks of yellow. Golden Teacher mushrooms have a distinct reddish, almost cinnamon color. It also has larger caps and stems when compared to most other Psilocybe Cubensis strains. Golden teacher’s mushrooms’ cap size can range from 20-80mm in diameter. It has a fruiting body with a unique, slightly curved cap adorned with a golden or yellow center. Underneath the caps are closely spaced gills with gray color, which darken with age. At maturity, the gills may become almost black.

Psychedelic Effects of Golden Teacher

Golden Teacher mushroom has a mild potency level, which is one of the reasons for their growing popularity across the work. This makes it ideal for almost all mushroom lovers, including beginners. It is one of the best gateways for newbies to explore the psychedelic world as its mild nature reduces the risk of a bad trip. Experienced psychonauts can also leverage its numerous unique effects for a memorable psychedelic experience. Some of Golden Teacher’s commonly known effects are enhanced colors, strong emotions, visual distortion, and lightness or giddiness. People named it Golden Teacher because it offers users an insightful and revelatory experience that lasts for hours after use. Gold cap effects are beyond casual or mere feelings; they are also very popular for the spiritual or shamanic experience. It takes users through a learning journey that unravels the mysteries of the universe. While the effects persist, you get to learn some important “life lessons,” just like learning from a teacher. The beauty of this sought-after entheogen is that you can tailor the dosage to your specific needs and preferences. If you want a moderate or heroic psychedelic experience, you can achieve it all with GT shrooms. And if all you need is just the health benefits with zero hallucinogenic effects, you can get that from microdosing it.

Health Benefits of Golden Teachers: What Research Says

Golden Teacher strain derived its name from the feeling of ego dissolution and the gentle enlightenment it offers people. These characteristics are instrumental in connecting the true spirit with nature and creating harmony with the universe. This feeling of ego death is common in most psilocybin-producing mushrooms. Though it is usually short-lived but may contribute to the long-lasting benefits commonly reported by magic mushroom users. In a 2017 study, published in the journal Neuroscience of Consciousness, researchers attested to its ego-dissolving effects in connecting people to the universe. They found a correlation between the popular “cosmic consciousness” experience and the ego-dissolving effects of psilocybin. There is evidence that such mystical states of mind are important for the therapeutic benefits of psychedelics. This explains why people express improved general well-being after participating in psilocybin-assisted therapy or shamanic ceremony. “Through this [ego-death] experience, it may be possible to re-engineer the mechanisms of self, which in turn could change people’s outlook or worldview,” says Professor Philip Gerrans, a member of the research team. Apart from ego dissolution, magic mushrooms also produce several other benefits, especially for mental well-being. This is due to their ability to bind to the brain and activate the serotonin receptor. Also known as the happy hormone, serotonin helps stabilize our feelings of well-being, mood, and happiness. Scientific evidence shows that the impact of psilocybin on the serotonin receptor could result in cognitive flexibility. This could lead to better brain functions. A 2017 report by John Hopkins says psilocybin could help reduce the risk of neurodegenerative disorders, such as dementia, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s. It could also help overcome tobacco addictionSome studies also report that it helps with mood and anxiety disorders, such as depression, PTSD, and OCD. All these put together make Golden Teacher a worthy option for improving mental wellness.

Dose Recommendation

The appropriate Golden Teacher mushroom dosage varies from one user to another. You have to consider your level of experience as a shroomer, and your body weight. Another important factor is each person’s desired result, which could be moderate, intense, or light. It is possible to calculate the dose using the general psilocybin dose recommendation. Generally, for beginners, a microdose to mild dose should be ideal. This ranges from 0.25 grams to 2 grams of dried mushroom. Anything above 2 grams to 5 grams may produce a euphoric to heroic, intense psychedelic experience. Depending on your experience and body composition, such high doses could launch you into a full hallucinogenic, mystical experience. You may be lost in the air and have a synesthesia experience – seeing sounds and tasting colors. It’s worth noting that the above dosages are random recommendations and may not work for everyone. Therefore, it is best to try the minimum possible dose, especially if this is your first time doing GT shrooms. This will ultimately keep you on the safe side.

Should I Buy or Grow My Golden Teacher Mushrooms?

The right answer for this will depend on who is asking. Growing the Golden Teachers shroom would be the best for some users, considering its easy cultivation method and adaptive nature in virtually any environment. This is why it is common to see GT shroom spores advertised by many vendors of magic mushroom Canada. However, in Canada, it is much easier to order your mushrooms online, which is safe, easy, and discreet.

Are Golden Teacher Mushrooms Legal?

The legality issue also comes with its own murky area. In some jurisdictions buying psilocybin spores is legal but allowing it to germinate is a crime. This is because spores do not contain the active compound, psilocybin. There are also places where possession of spores is illegal, while there are places where possession of psilocybin for personal use is either decriminalized or legalized. The important thing is to know what the law says in your area and get your golden teachers (whether spores or strain) from a trusted source like SHAFAA Mushrooms. (Note: only ships in Canada)

Inca Stargazer Mushrooms

STRAIN SPECIFICATIONS

The Inca Stagazer strain of Psilocybe cubensis is one of the oldest strains in circulation, although it has become very rare over time. You can find this strain mentioned as one of the original strains ever available in the 1970s book, “The Mushroom Cultivator,” by Paul Stamets. Inca Star Gazer was originally found in South America growing in dense clusters, in the hills of the Andes mountains, close to ancient Inca ruins. Inca Stargazer is noted to be a very prolific fruiter, giving massive flushes, with ease, and also very potent, with small to medium fruits. Habitat: Bovine, Equine Dung, and Enriched Soils Climate: Subtropical Strain Origin: Unknown Cap: 50+ mm in diameter, convex to broadly convex to plane at maturity. Reddish cinnamon brown matures from golden brown to light yellow because the surface is dry with pronounced and persistent remnants of a universal veil on the cap (spots) and the flesh is white soon bruising bluish green. Stem: 125+ mm in length, yellowish. Flesh bruising bluish green where injured. Persistent membranous annulus (ring) from partial veil that becomes dusted with purple-brown spores at maturity. Gills: Attachment adnate to adnexed. Grayish coloration in young fruit bodies becomes nearly black in maturity. Spores: Dark purplish brown, subellipsoid on 4-spored basidia Storage: Store in a dark, cool, and dry place and use within six months after delivery! Taxonomy: Kingdom: Fungi Division: Basidiomycota Class: Agaricomycetes Order: Agaricales Family: Strophariaceae Genus: Psilocybe Spores: purplish brown to dark brown, 11.5 – 17 x 8 – 11 µm, ellipsoid Habitat and distribution in nature: Rye grain, wheat straw, horse or cow manure. This species can be found in the subtropical and tropical climate zones all around the globe under the following conditions: Spawn run incubation: 28 °C | Primordia formation: 23.3 – 25.6 °C | Fruiting: 23 – 26 °C A 2011 study also found that more than a year after participants had a single psilocybin experience, their self-reported measures of openness remained significantly elevated, which researches in this study and beyond attribute to a somewhat mysterious but powerful aspect of a mushroom trip: the mystical experience. In this case, a mystical experience is defined as “feelings of unity and interconnectedness with all people and things, a sense of sacredness, feelings of peace and joy, a sense of transcending normal time and space, ineffability, and an intuitive belief that the experience is a source of objective truth about the nature of reality.” The religious identification of people who have reported having a mystical-type experience during a mushroom trip spans the spectrum, but interestingly the profundity of such experiences doesn’t seem to correlate to religious belief—even atheists have reported the importance of their psilocybin-induced mystical experiences. Additionally, research has shown that the more intense the mystical experience, the greater the positive, long-term changes a person sees. These subjective effects, such as feelings of interconnectedness, are likely a result of psilocybin’s ability to decrease the interconnectivity of integration hubs in the brain. In plain speak, that means psilocybin allows for more “cross-talk” between regions of the brain that are typically segregated. Researchers speculate that this enables a state of “unconstrained cognition,” meaning the ways we typically organize, categorize, and differentiate the aspects of conscious experience are broken down, and thinking becomes more flexible. To understand how this might be beneficial, it helps to know that similar brain activity patterns are also observed during various states of meditation. Habitat: Bovine, Equine Dung, and Enriched Soils Climate: Subtropical Strain Origin: Unclear, possibly Brazil Cap: 25-50+ mm in diameter, convex to broadly convex to plane at maturity often with persistent acute umbo (nipple). Reddish cinnamon brown maturing to golden brown to light yellow with nearly white edges. Surface dry lacking remnants of universal veil on cap (spots). Flesh white soon bruising bluish green. Stem: 150+ mm in length, yellowish. Flesh bruising bluish green where injured. Persistent membranous annulus (ring) from partial veil that becomes dusted with purple-brown spores at maturity. Gills: Attachment adnate to adnexed. Grayish coloration in young fruit bodies becomes nearly black in maturity. Spores: Dark purplish brown, subellipsoid on 4-spored basidia Habitat: Bovine, Equine Dung and Enriched Soils Climate: Subtropical Strain Origin: Unclear, possibly South America.
