As we age, neck bone and joint pain can be caused by the wear and tear of tissues and joints. Neck pain can have many causes, but most of these are not serious conditions. Neck muscles can be strained or pulled from poor posture or even from sleeping in an awkward position. Over time, normal wear and tear or arthritis can also lead to neck pain. Certain injuries can lead to bone and joint pain in the neck, as well as nerve compression in the area, causing one to seek neck pain treatment.
Muscle strains and lumbar sprains are the most common causes of low back pain. A low back muscle strain occurs when the muscles of the back are abnormally stretched too far. A lumbar sprain occurs when the ligaments, the tough bands of tissue that hold bones together, are torn from their attachments. Differentiating a strain from a sprain can be difficult, as both injuries will have similar symptoms. Many doctors refer to both injuries as a category called “musculoligamentous injuries” of the lumbar spine. In general, it doesn’t matter what you call the problem because the treatment and prognosis for both back strains and sprains is the same.
A therapeutic massage engages your senses through the use of soothing music, aromatherapy scents and massage oils, as well as the massage itself. Because a massage is an emotional as well as a physical experience, massage therapists need a range of personal, social and business skills, in addition to the physical techniques of the profession.
